Golf There are 4 excellent courses within the boundaries of Bearsden. The oldest by far is Glasgow Golf Club at Killermont. Over 200 years old this club was founded in 1787. It is a beautiful mature parkland course, relatively flat with modest undulations. The second oldest but relative newcomer at only 115 years of age is Bearsden Golf Club. Situated at the top of Thorn Road, a 10-minute walk from Bearsden Cross, the course remains true to its original layout. A parkland circuit of 9 holes played twice to alternate greens the course measures some 6100 yards and is a challenging par 68 off the medal tees. The clubs signature hole is undoubtedly the sixth, a long par 4 with a subtle dogleg encompassing out of bounds, lateral water, and an elevated green that lies beneath the remains of the Antonine Wall. The club has a deserved reputation for friendliness and informality and currently has immediate membership availability for gents, ladies and junior golfers. For more details contact The secretary Bearsden Golf Club, Thorn Road, Bearsden phone 0141 586 5300 or e mail us at ken@continuumscot.co.uk or visit their website Douglas Park Golf Club, although the newcomer in the area, had it's centenary in 1997. It is a slightly hillier and challenging 18 hole par 69 golf course of 5761 yards. A very scenic layout with many mature trees.
Windyhill Golf Club In 1924 the club moved to Baljaffray within Bearsden, which is 8 miles North West of Glasgow, and approximately 1.5 miles from Bearsden Cross. Windyhill is once again a slightly hillier course and rises to a height of 500 feet above sea level and is laid out on a series of plateaux which give excellent views for miles around.
